Mick Holsclaw
Elder Board Chairman
Tell us about your relationship with Jesus. How did it start and how has it grown?
I was blessed to have a mother who was committed to me knowing and following Jesus. I committed my life to following Jesus when I was eight years old, and was baptized at Auburn First Baptist Church. My understanding grew deeper through the years and was sustained
through my studies of philosophy in college and decades in various work settings. I still love to read the Bible, read books about the Bible and about God revealed in scripture, and the lives of his followers.
What kind of experience do you have with church/ministry leadership?
After a couple of experiences working with youth ministry, teaching Sunday School, and a Masters of Theology at seminary, I became a member at Sierra Grace Fellowship and served as a deacon. Later I served as an elder at Sierra Grace Fellowship for ten or eleven years, stepping down from that responsibility in 2019.
What do you love about Sierra Grace?
I love that Sierra Grace Fellowship is focused on helping people follow Jesus and become more like him through study, worship, and deep relationships with other followers of Jesus. When I first visited Sierra Grace in 2000, I found a welcoming community of people seeking to be more like Jesus and soon became a participant in a small group study where we encouraged each other to learn, and love and serve.
What are your hopes for Sierra Grace?
I look forward to God building upon what He has already done at Sierra Grace, to make the church more capable and effective at welcoming people in all stages of their faith journey, and helping them connect with others in our community so that all are encouraged to love God more deeply, love each other through the challenges that life brings, and love our neighbors in the Auburn community, as well as groups of “neighbors” throughout the world through our missions involvement.
